WAYS offers a number of voluntary, non-residential services for youth 14 to 21 in London and Middlesex. The type and extent of services varies according to the needs of the youth and their family/guardian.

What is Community Youth Support?

Community Youth Support is a non-residential program for youth 14 to 21 that provides practical short-term supports, including:

  • Help obtaining food, shelter and/or clothing
  • Advocacy and referrals to other community services including social assistance, school and mental health services
  • Life skills teaching such as independent living skills, re-integration to home living, social skills, problem solving, career directions and job skills development

Does WAYS run group programs?

WAYS regularly offers groups in the community such as Anger Management, Supper Club, Surviving Adolescence, Parent Support Group, and Children Exposed to Woman Abuse.

A group typically consists of 8 sessions, lead by WAYS staff. Group leaders provide opportunity for skill building, practice and discussion.

AfterCare

Aftercare is a non-residential program that serves youth and their families who have been discharged from WAYS Ministry of Children and Youth Services-funded residential programs.
 
Aftercare is available in London to individuals up to age 21.

Referrals are accepted from the youth’s primary worker or directly from the youth themselves.

Aftercare provides:

  • Immediate and on-going support for youth and their families
  • Advocacy and referrals to other community services including social assistance, school and mental health services
  • Access to Community Program groups
  • Help obtaining food, shelter and/or clothing

Life skills teaching which may include independent living skills, re-integration to home living, social skills, problem solving/anger management, career directions and job skills development
