WAYS offers three respite services to families in Chatham-Kent and London Middlesex:
Family Respite (Chatham-Kent) Although programs differ, all share the common goal of helping families through difficult times so that they can stay together. In Chatham-Kent, the Family Respite Program provides temporary residential and non-residential care for families who have at-risk babies and children up to age 6. The program is voluntary and accepts both self-referrals and referrals from community partners. It is normally used by parents who are experiencing difficulty, particularly when they have a child with complex needs and do not have access to enough formal or informal supports. The program provides timely assistance to parents when they first experience distress or crisis. Early intervention reduces the need for more costly and intrusive care and enhances family functioning. Our goal is to promote the safe and healthy development of children.
